Located in Chicago, Illinois, the 20,400 SF ALDI USA Six Corners project is set on a unique triangular-shaped site rich with the city’s history. Due to the site’s distinctive shape, the design team had to closely collaborate with the civil engineer to create a special design that resulted in aesthetically pleasing facades. Besides the design aspect, this project had challenges related to the site’s low soil-bearing capacities and historical remnants of previous buildings, leading to the use of deep foundations and strategic layout planning.

This project allowed ALDI USA to achieve many of its goals towards sustainability by reducing their water and energy consumption for the building. This urban location can be easily accessible using the CTA bus system, nearby bike lanes allow for cyclists to come and go with ease, and the site was also set up with EV charging readiness!

Shoutout to Brian Grinnell, AIA NCARB, the APD Engineering & Architecture, PLLC Engineering and Architecture lead on this one-of-a-kind project!
