Jack in the Box Jeffersonville, Indiana
APD has been a proud partner of Jack in the Box since 2017, and was selected as the brand’s Prototype Architect in 2023, placing APD at the center of how Jack in the Box restaurants are designed, refined, and delivered across markets. Through our ongoing involvement in the Jack’s Way Reimage Program, APD has supported the successful delivery of 50+ Jack in the Box locations nationwide, helping translate corporate standards into buildable, repeatable solutions.
Located along Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville, Indiana, this project represents APD’s first Jack in the Box location in the state and features the brand’s latest MK12 “Walk-Up” Prototype. The drive-thru-only format removes the traditional dining room and prioritizes kitchen performance, order flow, and site efficiency, allowing the brand to perform effectively on smaller parcels without compromising operational goals.
For this location, APD delivered full-service Architecture, Civil, Structural, MEP, and Permitting, navigating real-world site constraints while aligning closely with corporate design intent. The result is a highly efficient, brand-forward facility that reflects how APD supports national clients, not just by designing buildings, but by helping define and execute the standards that allow brands to grow with confidence.
Bringing the MK12 Prototype to Life
Designing for Speed and Throughout
APD coordinated the building layout and site circulation to support high-volume service through dual drive-thru lanes and a walk-up pickup window. Careful attention was given to stacking, vehicle flow, and pedestrian access to ensure the site could perform during peak demand while maintaining safe and intuitive circulation.
Optimizing the Building Footprint
At approximately 1,372 square feet, the MK12 Walk-Up prototype is compact by design. APD worked to efficiently organize kitchen, back-of-house, and equipment layouts to maximize functionality within a reduced footprint, helping the brand achieve cost-conscious construction while supporting fast-paced operations.
Supporting Day-to-Day Operations
Operational efficiencies were embedded into both the building and site design. APD coordinated layouts that accommodate multiple order points, dedicated pickup zones, and space for mobile and third-party delivery activity, helping streamline staff workflows and reduce friction during busy service periods.
Reinforcing Brand Presence
The Jeffersonville location incorporates Jack in the Box’s latest prototype branding and signage standards. APD ensured that these elements were seamlessly integrated into the building design and site layout, enhancing visibility along Veterans Parkway while maintaining consistency with corporate brand guidelines.
Designing with Flexibility in Mind
As Prototype Architect, APD helps ensure Jack in the Box’s designs remain adaptable across a wide range of site conditions. This project demonstrates how the MK12 prototype can be successfully deployed on a smaller, developer-led site while remaining aligned with the brand’s long-term growth strategy.
Integrated Services, Coordinated Execution
APD provided Architecture, Civil, Structural, MEP, and Permitting services for this project. Our Civil team designed the site to include underground stormwater detention beneath the parking lot, while elevation constraints required a sanitary pump station and force main. APD also worked closely with the developer and their engineering teams to coordinate internal roadways and utilities, designing to assumed future site conditions, a critical consideration in phased developments.

The APD Commitment
This project illustrates how APD supports national brands beyond delivering individual locations. By serving as Prototype Architect, APD helps bridge the gap between corporate vision and on-the-ground execution, ensuring each site reflects brand standards while responding to real-world constraints. When brands evolve, APD helps make that evolution buildable.
