Joel Skogen believes the strongest mechanical solutions bridge the gap between theory and real-world execution. Every project presents different priorities, whether that’s construction cost, long-term operating efficiency, system performance, or future flexibility. Rather than prescribing a single path, Joel helps clients understand the advantages and trade-offs of each option so they can make informed decisions with confidence.
Joel began gaining hands-on mechanical experience at just 15 years old, building the technical foundation on a two decade-long career in HVAC design across retail, hospitality, office buildings, fitness centers, car washes, pet kennels, and many other unique facilities. Since joining APD in 2024, he has leveraged that experience to deliver practical, energy-efficient mechanical systems that are reliable, high-performing, and built to last. Guided by a commitment to quality and technical excellence, Joel designs solutions that support clients’ operational needs while creating long-term value.
As Principal of MEP Engineering at APD, Joel is passionate about mentoring the next generation of designers. His leadership emphasizes technical excellence, practical problem-solving, and continuous learning to ensure every project is completed with precision and confidence. Outside of work, Joel and his wife enjoy caring for their animals while renovating their 1908 farmhouse in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
