This Walmart Supercenter, located on Route 11 just past Clarkson University in the Village of Potsdam, was a ground-up, 185,000+ SF store. APD provided all Civil related design and permitting services for this project situated on a 50-acre site. It was designed in 2003 and finally constructed in 2008/2009. Multiple challenges faced this project. They included: – Endangered species – Demolition and abatement of existing facility with asbestos and lead based paint – On-site water (wells, elevated water storage tank, water treatment building) – On-site septic (septic tank, pump station, raised bed) – New turn lanes and associated widening of NYS highway – On-site wetlands – NYSDEC dam permit – Public opposition
