Since 2023, we have served as Del Taco’s Prototype Architect, supporting the evolution of its prototype program into a more coordinated, scalable, and maintainable system. Our work extends beyond maintaining prototype documents. We help improve how the program functions for corporate teams, site-adapt architects, and future rollout efforts.
At the start of our engagement, Del Taco’s prototype program consisted of three separate building formats maintained as independent drawing sets. We worked closely with the client to consolidate those formats into a single, unified prototype platform, reducing redundancy, improving coordination, and creating a stronger foundation for continued growth.
As part of this effort, we developed a master file structure using option-based drawing components that allows multiple layouts, equipment configurations, and operational features to be managed within one coordinated system. This approach gives site-adapt teams the flexibility to select the elements appropriate for each location while maintaining consistency with prototype standards and brand intent.
We have also supported the continued evolution of Del Taco’s prototype strategy through smaller, more flexible formats designed around changing operational needs, including speed of service, digital ordering, dual drive-thru configurations, and dedicated mobile pickup areas.
By creating a unified prototype system, we have helped Del Taco simplify long-term program management, improve consistency, and streamline future updates. Our work reflects our ability to evaluate an existing prototype program, identify opportunities for improvement, and create a practical platform that can be efficiently adapted and deployed across a fast-paced, multi-site development program.
